The City of Borger is honored to have been selected as the recipient of the Panhande Regional Emergency Management Jurisdictional Excellence Award from the Panhandle Regional Emergency Management Advisory Committee (PreMAC)!

This award recognizes jurisdictions that demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation, and performance in Emergency Management. We are so proud that Borger has been recognized for these efforts and for the ongoing work to serve our residents with excellence!

We extend our gratitude to the PRPC for this recognition and to our dedicated staff, leadership, and community partners whose commitment made this achievement possible.

Here are a few things our Office of Emergency Managment has accomplished recently that you might not know about.

• Pioneered a region-first agreement with TX DOT to allow prescribed burns along the highway rights-of-way, enhancing wildfire mitigation across critical evacuation and response routes in Hutchinson County.

• Led the development of a grant funded wildfire detection system, combining high resolution cameras and AI smoke detection to accelerate emergency response across remote rural area.

• Initiated a public facing air quality monitoring project through the Hutchinson County LEPC, enhancing EPCRA compliance and improving community right-to-know access during and after large scale wildfires.

• Proactively proposed the Wildfire EvacuLane Project, a concept to use eastbound highway shoulders for staged wildfire evacuations - highlighting Borger's forward-thinking approach to rural evacuation planning.

• Coordinated cross-departmental disaster deployments, sending training personnel across Texas to support: operations, logistics, damage assessments, and donations management, during flooding and wildfire events.

• Provided mutual aid and statewide leadership in emergency management while simultaneously strengthening Borger's own emergency preparedness though lessons learned and skill building.
